:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from m'Lady Elf -- A Book With a Heartbeat : Matthias' journey toward adulthood in this book is a powerfully written story of heartbreaking loss in a world that requires he be strong and self-sufficient, where Matthias, the boy, feels neither of these things. As the boy marches toward manhood and the full power of his inheritance, he must find his own identity, separate from him father and brother, and make a path of his own. He does not find this easy, even after he acquires his own Guide as he starts out on his diaspora. The author evokes Mattias' emotions so thoroughly they might as well have been mine while reading, be sure to keep a box of tissue handy if you're an empathetic reader.
